Gaffer
Gaffer privacy policyEffective 10 October 2026Gaffer: Football Card Battle is a free game for iPhone and Android made by one developer. This is the whole policy, in plain words: the app collects nothing, sends nothing, and has nowhere to send it.What is collectedNothing. Gaffer collects no personal information, no usage data, no device identifiers, no crash reports and no advertising identifiers, from anyone, ever. What is sentNothing. The app makes no network requests of any kind. There is no server behind it, no cloud save, no remote configuration and no online play. The Daily Fixture is the same for everyone because it is worked out from the date, not fetched from anywhere. If you would rather not take that on trust, turn on Airplane Mode and play as normal: everything works exactly the same.AccountsThere are none. There is nothing to sign in to, no email address to give, and no profile. The app never asks who you are. The club name you type is a label for your own screen and your own share card, and it stays on the phone.Analytics, advertising and third partiesThere are no analytics, no trackers and no advertising in the app, and no data leaves the phone for anyone to receive.Rating promptAfter some wins, such as a Daily Fixture or a Sunday Cup final, the app may ask the phone to show the App Store's or Google Play's own "rate this app" prompt. The prompt belongs to Apple or Google, who decide whether it appears, and anything you write in it goes to them under their own terms. Gaffer sends nothing with it and never learns whether or how you rated. On Android this uses Google's in-app review library, the only outside code in the app; it talks only to the Google Play app on your phone.NotificationsSettings has a "Daily reminder" switch. It starts switched on. The first time you kick off a Daily Fixture, or when you turn the switch on, the phone asks whether Gaffer may send notifications, and nothing is booked until you agree. If you agree, the app books one reminder at 6 pm on each of the next seven days, and drops today's once you have played the Daily Fixture. These reminders are scheduled on the phone itself; no server is involved and nothing is sent anywhere. On Android the app also asks the system to put the booked reminders back after a restart, which is the only reason it listens for the phone starting up. Turn the switch off, or refuse the permission, and none are booked. The share cardAfter a Daily Fixture, the Full Time screen and the home screen offer a Share button. Tapping it draws a square image on the phone, with your club's crest and colours, your scoreline and the three lane results, and hands it with three lines of text to your phone's own share sheet. Nothing is created until you tap Share, and it goes only where you choose to send it. The app never posts anything on its own and has nowhere to post it.What is stored on the phone- Your progress: the cards you have signed, your Scouting Points, your Sunday Cup round, losses and stars, your Daily Fixture streak and last result, your saved squads, your achievements, whether you have finished the tutorial and which tips you have already seen, and how many matches you have played and won.
- Your club: its name, its home and away kit colours and patterns, and the stadium you chose.
- Your settings: the sound, music, haptics, colourblind lane markers and daily reminder switches. All of it lives in the app's own storage on the phone. It is included in your phone's normal backup if you have one, under that backup's terms, and in nothing else.Deleting everythingOpen Settings inside the app and tap "Reset progress". It asks you to confirm, then puts your collection, squads, Cup stars, daily streak and club back to the start; the switches in Settings stay as you set them. Deleting the app removes all of it at once, with nothing left behind anywhere else, because nothing was ever anywhere else.ChildrenGaffer has nothing in it that needs an age gate, and it is not part of the App Store's Kids category or Google Play's Teacher Approved programme. No data is collected from anyone, of any age, so there is nothing held about a child to request or delete.Your rightsLaws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights over personal data a company holds about you. Gaffer holds none, and never receives any, so there is nothing to request, correct, export, delete or opt out of. Everything the app stores is already on your own phone and under your control.ChangesIf this policy ever changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new effective date, and any change that affects what the app does will arrive with an app update you can read about first.ContactQuestions about this policy or about the app: [email protected]---Gaffer supportGaffer: Football Card Battle is a three-minute tactical football card game. You are the manager: over six turns you bring players onto three lanes of the pitch, and whoever has the higher total Rating in a lane at Full Time wins it. Win two of three lanes to win the match. There is a seven-round Sunday Cup, a Daily Fixture that is the same for everyone, Quick Match, a Squad Builder and a club editor.Everything happens on your phone. There is no account, the app makes no network calls at all, and it works in Airplane Mode. How do I learn the rulesThe first round of the Sunday Cup is a tutorial against The Rookie, with a tooltip for each new idea; "Skip tutorial" is there if you already know what you are doing. "How to Play", on the home screen and in Settings, runs a three-turn match in one lane and lists the words: Momentum, Rating, Possession, On Entry, Ongoing, Run, Sent Off, Dropped, Final Whistle. Long-press any card, in a match, in the Collection or in Squad Builder, to read its full text. Tap a lane's condition chip to read what the condition does. Why can't I play a cardFour reasons, each shown on the card or the lane. Its cost, the gold number, is more Momentum than you have left this turn. The lane is full: four players per side, or two under Tight Pitch. The lane has Offside Trap and the player's Rating is 6 or more. Or the lane has Long Away Trip, which adds one to every cost there. Cards you cannot afford are dimmed in your hand. Why did a Rating badge change colourThe badge says where a player stands against its printed Rating: blue at the printed value, green above it, red below it. Other players' abilities and the lane's condition move it, and anything Ongoing is recalculated after every change, so a badge can change several times during one reveal. A Rating can go below zero, and then it counts against the lane. What is PossessionWho reveals first. The side ahead, on lanes won and then on total Rating, has Possession and reveals first; on a tie it passes to whichever side did not have it last turn. Revealing first means your On Entry abilities resolve before the other side's new players are on the pitch. Revealing second means yours can see, and act on, what has just been played. The header shows who has it.Did the computer see my handNo. Every manager plays from a view of the match with your hand and your remaining squad hidden, the same view you have of theirs. The Hard managers guess what you hold by sampling from the cards they have not yet seen; they never look. At Full Time the screen shows the cards the opponent was still holding, so you can check what they were working with. How do I unlock cardsYou start with fifteen. Each Sunday Cup round you win signs one particular card, seven in all. Every match pays Scouting Points: three for a win, two for a draw, one for a loss, and five more when it was the Daily Fixture. Every ten points signs a random card you do not yet own, and the Collection screen shows how far you are from the next signing. There is nothing to buy; all thirty-five cards are earned by playing. When does the Daily Fixture change, and why did my streak resetAt midnight UTC, the same moment for everyone, so that everyone plays the same fixture on the same day. In the UK that is midnight in winter and 1 am in summer; in New York it is 7 or 8 pm. The home screen counts down to it. A streak continues when you play on consecutive UTC days and goes back to one when a day is missed. The Daily reminder in Settings nudges you at 6 pm, your time, if today's fixture is unplayed. How do I share a resultThe Daily Fixture is the match with a share card. Once today's is played, tap Share on the Full Time screen or on the home screen. The phone's share sheet opens with a square card drawn from your club's crest and colours and three lines of text: the fixture number and scoreline, the three lanes as green, grey and red squares, and a line about how it was won. Nothing is created until you tap Share, and it goes only where you send it.The app asked to send notificationsThat was the "Daily reminder" switch in Settings, which asks for permission the first time you kick off a Daily Fixture or turn the switch on, and books a 6 pm reminder on each of the next seven days once you agree. If you said no and want to change your mind: on iPhone, open the Settings app, find Gaffer and turn Notifications on; on Android, open Settings, then Apps, then Gaffer, then Notifications. Then turn the switch in the game off and on again. To stop the reminders, turn the switch off.How do I start againOpen Settings inside the app and tap "Reset progress". It asks you to confirm, then puts your collection, squads, Cup stars, daily streak and club back to a fresh install. The sound, music and other switches keep their settings. Deleting the app removes everything at once. Why is there no accountBecause there is nothing to sync. Your collection, squads, streak and club stay on the phone, so there is no server to log in to and no reason to ask for your email address. It also means progress lives on this phone only: a new phone brings it along only if your phone's own backup does.Something looks wrongIf a card or a condition did not do what its text says, send me a screenshot of the lane with the turn number showing and say which card you mean; if a screen looks broken, a screenshot of that. Email [email protected] and I read every message myself.
